Walking on Water

The disciples saw a man walking on the water. They thought him a ghost and feared for their lives. When they learned it was the Master, Peter, full of confidence, asked if he, too, could walk on water. Jesus told him to come out of the boat. Peter walked on water over to Jesus. But then Peter took his eyes off of Jesus, looking instead to the water around him...and he began to sink. He cried out to Jesus to save him; Jesus grabbed him by the arm and pulled him up. Together, they walked on the water back to the boat.

You and I can have confidence when it is rightly placed in our Lord. We can accomplish marvelous works...really make a difference. Unfortunately, like Peter, we take our eyes off of the Savior, and we lose our confidence. Before long, we begin to sink in the morass of our environment.

Think about these things in light of this story:
* You go to work after a great weekend, resolved to serve the Lord there, only to lose heart when coworkers drag you down with negative talk and actions.
* You resolve to spend less than you make...finally. But then one thing leads to another, and you put money on your credit card.
* You promise the Lord that you will read the Bible, only to be diverted by some movie on television, and you wonder why your spirit is empty at the end of the day.

I'm there with you. The things I want to do, I don't do nearly often enough. The things I'm resolved not to do, those are the very things I do too often. Like Paul, I feel wretched, in need of a Savior.

Thanks be to God Almighty that we have Jesus. Call out to Him; He will reach down to rescue you from the storm of despair.

Remember the children. Pray for those who are lonely and hungry.
