A sincere apology goes a long way to assuage the angst of others because of an inappropriate comment you made without full consideration of the facts.

Words Mean Things
Slice it any way you want, what you say in public is borne from private struggles. Blurt out a response in haste...and we know you've anguished over the topic. Say something stupid, and you've got to answer for your own shortcomings.
